Hello! We stayed overnight here in order to attend the Minnesota RV Dealers Camper Show on September 17th. I booked us into a King Room online and upon arrival, the friendly desk host had us simply give them vehicle information and we received our keys. Quick and easy!
Our room was on the 3rd floor, near the elevator but not too far. The hotel was pretty full so we were happy to have a room away from the pool area as we'd heard those rooms were subject to additional noise. Our room was quite clean wit the exception of some dust and an empty pop container behind the nightstand - no biggie.
The bathroom was very clean and stylish with tile panels in the shower surround and wallpaper around the sink area. Soaps and shampoos were available as well as a hair dryer and a welcome supply of towels. As with most updated hotels, this one featured a continuous bathroom vent fan run by the hotel HVAC system so there was no "fan" switch in the bathroom, but I felt this system kept up quite well with the shower humidity and general venting.
Our closet contained a safe (which we never used), an iron and ironing board and ample hanging space for clothes.
Our mini-fridge was already pre-cooled for stowing beverages and refrigerator treats, and the single-cup coffee maker had 8 packets (4 regular, 4 decals) available for brewing, with two insulated cups and a typical supply of creamer packets, sugar and stir sticks.
The main room had a nice cushioned chair with ottoman and tables to set our luggage upon. The flat screen TV was crisp but the image was unadjusted to to the point where the image did not fill up the entire flat screen space (black borders on top and bottom). Stretched people on TV is un-natural! ;-)
The remote and channel card were on the TV credenza and the channel selection was good, yet the remote, a replacement by the looks of it, was a little slow to switch channels and very "economy" looking. Overall, however, the viewing and TV were great.
The king bed was quite comfortable, being firm but not rock hard, with great pillows and the right amount of bedding for this time of year. The heater/AC unit beneath the window was also great, very quiet and easy to adjust temperatures. I did not wake either of us up at all overnight, and the room remained at a comfortable temperature.
I did find a plastic pop bottle beneath the rear of my night stand as well as dust and what appeared to be "snack debris" of sunflower seeds. This did not bother me as I've seen this before in other hotel rooms elsewhere. I just tossed the bottle. I'm sure it's difficult for cleaning staff to catch everything in the amount of time they are given to clean rooms. I've read so many TripAdvisor reviews where people get so bent out of shape about one or two minor issues with their room, then give the hotel a low "one star" rating because of it that I wonder whether these reviewers have a grasp on reality. Some perspective adjustment may be in order, especially if your first world problem whilst staying in a very clean hotel in the safety of a good city in the USA involves throwing away a stray pop-bottle or seeing one dead bug in an obscure corner. Overwhelmingly the room was spotless and extremely comfortable!
The elevator was fast and there was a luggage caddy available for bringing your luggage in. Upon returning the caddy to the lobby, the desk staff asked me how the room was, which was a very welcome courtesy.
The fitness center featured treadmills, an elliptical and a recumbent cycle machine and was clean and well lit. The pool and hot tub area were spacious with ample towels for swimmers and lots of light through the west facing floor-to-ceiling windows.
Parking was tight as the hotel was nearly full on this particular Friday night. We went out for dinner and upon returning, noticed the lot was full and, unfortunately, there were 4 larger delivery style trucks that had parked parallel in the lot across several parking spots, taking up 3-4 parking spots per truck. This forced us to park in the neighboring Aldi grocery store parking lot for the night, although we could still see our car from our 3rd floor window and there were no incidents. We noticed 4 other guests had also parked in the Aldi lot as well.
No worries about security when we were there and we felt safe and very comfortable. The hotel is close to several restaurants, a grocery store, and just 8 minutes drive from Downtown Anoka, MN where there is some decent nightlife.
The free Continental Plus breakfast looked good although we were unable to take part due to an early departure!
At this point I would recommend the Best Western Plus Coon Rapids for a good stay! less
