A huge Best Western that, like many, has undergone a makeover with their re-branding efforts. You could hold a large conference here. Huge common area that could seat 150 people; 150 rooms; good size indoor pool and hot tub. The embedded Country Kitchen is also large. There are some motel-style rooms opening directly to the outside for those who need to be near their cars.
The service was an example of good Midwestern hospitality. The staff are all well trained, friendly and helpful. Check-in was a breeze (though it still involves signatures and identifying your car).
The room was large and clean, with a modern TV, desk, hanging rail, small bathroom area. The desk chair was comfortable as was the bed.
The free breakfast buffet was the largest I've come across in this market (and I've stayed in probably 8 places in this area in the last 6 months). It featured a fresh fruit selection, gravy & biscuits, ham, sausage, eggs, chorizo/egg bake, breads and pastries. Coffee was decent too.
But the renovation is half done. Carpet in the rooms wasn't replaced and you're hit with that old smoky smell as soon as you open the door. The walls are pale bare brick, there aren't sufficient electric outlets for the tech-savvy traveler, the water pressure in the shower is so low, you can almost be in it and not get wet.
Basically, the infrastructure is still 70's and tough to hide let alone fix.
For $55 a night thru Priceline it was good value, though, and if you're OK with something between a old-style Days Inn and a Radisson, you'll be fine. If you prefer somewhere more modern , this is not for you. less
