Patrick Stewart returns to London theatreland not to play in Shakespeare, but actually star as Shakespeare in Edward Bond's Bingo at the Young Vic. Angus Jackson's Young Vic co-production received rave reviews at Chichester Festival Theatre's Minerva Studios in 2010.
First seen in 1973, Bond takes British literature's most revered figure and shows him back in Stratford after his heady playwriting years in London. Besieged by his daughter and all too conscious of making money from tithe land at Welcombe, he is presented with a moral quandary: should he side with landowners who want to enclose the land (and promise him no financial disadvantage), or with the workers whose lives will be destroyed?
One of Britain's most popular actors, Stewart brings a wealth of Shakespearean experience to play the bard himself.
