The Ballyclare May Fair Festival is a local custom dating back to 1756. Once a fertility festival, it's still an occasion for young girls to dress up in their finest and dance around the May Pole to traditional Irish music.

The highlight of the week is the horse fair when Ballyclare fills with breeds of all kinds, most for sale. There are also helicopter rides, a funfair, craft stalls and continental market.
