Penzance celebrates the armed forces in fine form with this annual gala weekend. Battle re-enactments, free-fall parachute displays and military bands all contribute to the celebrations, with events designed to appeal to military personnel and laymen alike.

The trials and tribulations faced by members of the armed forces is something we're all aware of in a modern context, but the Penzance Armed Forces Gala Weekend also remembers soldiers and members of the military past. Shops throughout the town are decorated with old-fashioned garlands of bunting and, if you step inside their doors, you may well find staff dressed in military clothing and 1940s costumes!
