The most colourful, diverse and labyrinthine of London's flea markets, Camden Market is one of the city's biggest tourist attractions. if you visit on a Sunday, you'll discover just how busy it can get.

Camden Market proper is on the High Street, and is open seven days a week. Cheap new and second-hand fashion and imitation designer clothing, records, incense, hats, posters and jewellery have long made shopping here an essential rite of passage for teenagers. The street is also lined with shops packed with jeans, leather jackets and sundry street fashion goods. Further up, by the canal, is the Camden Lock market. Shops here are open all week and there is a broader range of toys, handicrafts, crystals, candles, music shops and second-hand books, as well as T-shirts and general ethnic and hippy-style clothes. Further up, past the Lock, is the Stables Market, open only at weekends, offering a wide range of second-hand furniture and antiques. It is especially good for pop-art-type furniture and bohemian bric-a-brac. The market is copiously stocked with food stalls throughout, ranging from burgers, pizza and patties (especially in the areas closer to the Tube) to vegetarian food and Thai noodles up past the Lock. Trendy bars, such as Proud in the Stables, provide essential watering holes and a good vantage point for people-watching.
