The Albannach Restaurant and Bar is a sleek, Scottish-inspired nightspot on Trafalgar Square in central London. Come for the best selection of malt whiskies in London and arguably the tenderest serving of Buccleuth beef in the capital. 'Albannach' means 'a Scot'.
The Scottish theme is hinted at rather than overblown - the ladies loos are full of dried heather, the chandelier is made from (naturally shed) red deer antlers and the walls are painted St.Andrews 'blue'.
As you'd expect in a bar inspired by Scotland, you can sample double measures of malt whiskies from the Highlands, the Lowlands, Islay and Campbeltown as well as quality blends such as Johnnie Walker's Gold label and Chivas Regal 18-year old.
The mezzanine restaurant above the main bar has an Art Nouveau balustrade evoking the sinuous curves of Charles Rennie Mackintosh's signature style and a Gordon Ramsay-trained chef, John-Paul McLachlan, who brings with him impressive experience at Amaryllis, Le Manoir Aux Quat' Saisons and Martin Wishart.
Try his Scottish classics like Cullen Skink soup, Haggis tortellini and seared hand-dived scallops. Round off your feast with Scotch Apple tart or a plate of Scottish Farmhouse Cheese.
