All year round
Scotland's premier racecourse - home to both the Ayr Gold Cup and Scottish Grand National - Ayr hosts both flat and National Hunt racing throughout the year.
Although the first official meet here was not until 1777, as reported in Weatherbys Racing Calendar, there is evidence of racing in the area back to the 16th century. In 1804 the course hosted the first Ayr Gold Cup. Following the opening of a new course in 1907, Ayr held its first-ever National Hunt fixture in 1950, and staged its first Scottish Grand National in 1966.
