Britain's biggest open-air ice-rink forms part of Edinburgh's Christmas, centred annually on Princes Street Gardens. The city's Christmas festivities also include a market and kick off with the lighting of the Christmas lights.
Throughout the festival, open-air ice-skating is available by the famous Scott Memorial, at the east end of Princes Street Gardens. Along with lights and decorations, there are performances by professional skaters, ice hockey matches and curling competitions. A fair featuring children's rides, stalls, food and drink is also set up by the Scott Memorial.
The lights are switched on at 6pm on the opening night. And, apart from Christmas Day itself, the festivities continue over Hogmanay into the first week of January.
