A true love story

that warmed the cockles of our hearts

A long, long time ago, a handsome young man (we’ll call him Henry) met an English rose (we’ll call her Victoria) and they fell truly, madly, deeply in love. courted. They ran across cornfields in the sunshine, hand in hand. And they laughed. Oh how they laughed!

Fast forward 53 years.

An older, wiser Henry had arranged to meet his childhood sweetheart, having tracked Victoria down after five long decades apart. At a Best Western hotel, by no strange coincidence! On hearing news of the couple’s joyful reunion, Katie from Central Reservations sent a card to wish them a lovely stay and congratulate Henry and Victoria on finding each other again. The following is what she received in reply:

Dear Katie,

Just a line to thank you so much for your thoughtfulness. To find a card from you on our arrival at the
BEST WESTERN Walton Park Hotel, Clevedon was very nice. We both had such a wonderful time, a few tears – mainly of joy – and lots of laughs. You remember that you could only book us for two nights? Well, the icing on the cake came when reception rang on our second day to say there had been a cancellation so we were able to stay for the four nights we originally wanted. The only sad part was when I realised the lady in question was out of her mind – on the third night I asked her to marry me and she said "yes!". Thanks again for your part in helping to bring an old man so much happiness.
