Warwick Hotels

Book a hotel in Warwick, the county town of Warwickshire. The settlement has many claims to fame. The local, independent school claims to be the oldest boys' school in the country and the massive Warwick Castle, built in 1068 during the Norman consolidation of power, is said by some to be the largest and most complete medieval castle in the world. It certainly has the largest catapult in the world in its grounds. Book a hotel in Warwick to experience this wonderful and cultural centre.
Warwick neighbourhoods
A Warwick hotel will give the perfect launching pad to explore this beautiful ancient town that is steeped in history. Unfortunately, the Great Fire of Warwick destroyed much of the older town from the Medieval period but the remaining quarters still retain a very antiquated and traditional style and ambience. Timber-framed, magpie houses lean towards each other over the well-worn cobbled streets with small, traditional shops and stalls either side constantly buzzing and throbbing. The impressive castle is always visible on the skyline, reminding you of the town's long past. Take in the Lord Leycester hospital, based around the old Chapel of St James, a Guildhall and a Great Hall - a building that long predates the NHS. Also included within the establishment are the Master's Garden and the Museum of the Queen's Hussars. For a nice change of scenery from your Warwick hotel, head to Priory Park, which lies just beyond Northgate roundabout. In similar vein, the beautiful St Nicholas Park, complete with life-size chessboard and pieces, sits proudly astride the River Avon a bit farther up the road.
Shopping in Warwick
Despite the town's age and laid-back air, booking a hotel in Warwick will give you access to a vibrant and varied haven of independent shops. Place and Swan Street is the place to head for the fashion-conscious, a buzzing hub that also holds a popular farmers' market. The oldest area for shopping is the Smith Street Quarter, an antiquated district specialising in jewellery and gifts that will whisk you back to the sixteenth century as you peer through the foggy windows. The town is a fantastic place to come for antiques. You can buy anything from a Corgi Classics toy car to a Georgian clock. The traditional and beautiful Eastgate Bookshop is a well-known second-hand bookstore, bursting to the brim with copies of hidden treasures that you would be hard pressed to find elsewhere.
Eating and drinking in Warwick
The location of Warwickshire, buried deep in countryside, has served the county town well - a constant supply of fresh, seasonal produce is always on the doorstep. Book a hotel in Warwick to explore the town's impressive and varied culinary scene. The half-timbered buildings of Smith Street make it a romantic setting for a relaxing candlelit meal. The Catalan Restaurant on Jury Street serves the most tempting tapas in town. For a homemade cake and a cuppa, Wylies is the place to go! High Pavement is a fairly recent bar and dining experience in the forgotten market town. Award-winning designer, Steve Howie, has given one of the town's oldest buildings a new lease of life, breathing into it excitement and modernity. Book early for a choice of classic French and British cuisine served in the trademark 'little dishes' or 'large dishes.' This place is a must for foodies! Café Tearoom and Food Emporium in Market Place are hard to beat. They sell retro sugar mice and flying saucers to catapult you back to your gobstopper-sucking childhood. The Rose and Crown is the place to down a pint of Warwickshire Pure UBU.
Culture and nightlife in Warwick
Warwick Castle, sitting, majestically on the River Avon, is one of the most complete and beautiful traditional castles around. A day spent here, before returning to your Warwick hotel, is time spent very well. Visit the Lord Leycester Hospital, a fine medieval timber-framed building based around the old Chapel of St James, a Guildhall and a Great Hall. Also, included within the establishment are the Master's Garden and the Museum of the Queen's Own Hussars. The Warwick Arts Centre next to the University of Warwick is the largest of its kind in the Midlands, attracting about 300,000 visitors a year to its concert hall, cinema, two theatres and art gallery. You can see dance, movies, live comedy and hear classical music here. Why not have a wander around the beautiful campus of Warwick University, a beautiful institute of higher education that consistently ranks in the top 10 in the UK. Revisit your student days and have a picnic and laze on one of the vast stretches of grass before returning to your Warwick hotel.
