Wickerman Festival

Inspired by writer Anthony Shaffer and director Robin Hardy's 1973 cinematic cult thriller-chiller of the same name, the Wickerman Festival pitches camp at East Kirkcarswell Farm in Kirkcudbright. First held in 2002, it is Scotland's best alternative festival.

The festival takes place in acres of isolated farmland with stages, a campsite, kids' area, bars and a talent stage. An enormous Wicker Man is burnt late on Saturday night. Profits are ploughed back into future events, so the festival celebrates a community vibe.

The tenth festival in 2011 ended with the usual blazing effigy after sets from the likes of James, Feeder, The Coral, The Pigeon Detectives, Echo & The Bunnymen, Noisettes, The Hoosiers, Craig Charles Funk and Soul Club (DJ Set), The Damned and From The Jam.
