London Fashion Week
Organised by the British Fashion Council, London Fashion Week is a major biannual fashion event at Somerset House that showcases the latest season's collections. Watch the glitterati of the fashion media set the tone for next year's styles.
Over 100 designers hold a series of catwalk shows in vast white marquees, especially erected on the lawns of the venue, with a mix of new designers taking to the stage alongside their more established contemporaries. Designers unveil their collections to a professional audience of press and buyers from the UK and cities across the globe. A large number of static stands showcase the best of British fashion.
It's a frenetic but fabulous programme that sees the fashion industry flex serious creative muscle in its bid to attract investors. Sadly, however, the spectacle of the shows may remain outside your reach as attendance is reserved strictly for fashion professionals.
Humble members of the hoi polloi can still enjoy London's flair for unconventional design. Fashion students, wannabe models and aspiring bloggers prowl the streets in outlandish outfits while restaurants, cafes, bars and clubs throughout the capital host a raft of slick and stylish events and functions that easily rival the most sumptuous offerings of New York, Milan and Paris.
