BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art

One of Britain's liveliest modern art galleries, the Baltic Centre occupies a former flour mill on Gateshead's waterfront. Exhibitions from the likes of Brian Eno and Beryl Cook cause occasional controversy. Visit the Rooftop Restaurant for great views.

A £46 million National Lottery-funded project transformed the former Baltic Flour Mills into one of the biggest international contemporary arts spaces in Europe. The venue houses five galleries, artists' studios, a cinema/lecture space, library and archive for the study of contemporary art, as well as several food and drink areas.
