ss Great Britain
British engineer Isambard Kingdom Brunel's 19th-century iron ship is now a meticulously restored showpiece. The largest and most powerful ship built in her time, ss Great Britain dominates the waterfront along Hotwells and reflects Bristol's proud maritime history.
Against a backdrop of hundreds of other smaller vessels, the ship is over 320 feet long, 50 feet wide and weighs 1930 tons. Built by the famous engineer Isambard Brunel, she worked for nearly 100 years, travelled over a million miles and came to rest in Bristol, where she now serves as an educational resource and national monument for current and future generations.
