Ludlow Food Festival
Over 130 producers from the local Welsh Marches area bring their wares to Ludlow Castle for the annual Ludlow Food Festival. Besides its Michelin-starred restaurants, this medieval Shropshire town hosts the mother of all British food festivals.
Arm yourself with a pint of cloudy Herefordshire cider and a bun overflowing with shreds of spit-roasted pork to wander the grounds and browse the action. See eye-catching demonstrations of meat butchery and displays of skill by students of haute cuisine.
Pop along to genteel pudding tastings, where wobbly trifles and sticky cakes are served up by aproned ladies. Get up early on Saturday to get tickets for the famous sausage trail when local butchers compete for the prized People's Choice award, voted for by the sausage-munching public.
