Cobella Spa
A New York staple, and loved by Hilary Clinton, Cobella now offers Londoners a salon and day spa that is affordable and easy to get to, and copes with every inch of the (male and female) body.
A genuine 'day spa' is said to result from the 'working amalgamation' of two concepts - the nurturing and calming aspects of a health spa, with the creative and artistic aspects of hair styling. Cobella aims to do just this and more and, headed by the formidable Beverly Cobella (with a frighteningly successful career in all things to do with hair), it does a pretty good job at it.
Tucked amongst the buzzing shops lining Kensington High Street, opposite Kensington Palace, Cobella looks like any other posh hairdressing salon. But step inside and you realise it's something a bit more. Underneath the swivel chairs and blowdryers of the ground floor, the candlelit, sweet-smelling area below is unashamedly devoted to pampering and indulgence.
A number of Zen-like rooms are devoted to therapies and nice things (Future-Tec Skin Regeneration, aromatherapy, beauty treatments, and the all-important slap of St Tropez tan). Ensure to call in advance though - appointments tend to go quickly.
