Hickstead British Jumping Derby Meeting
Hickstead's Derby Meeting is the most exciting competition in British showjumping, drawing enthusiasts from throughout the country. The highlight of these four days is the Derby, when riders pit their wits against a fiendishly difficult and notoriously challenging course.
Not only are most of the jumps more than five feet high, but horse and rider must also jump leering doubles, the notorious Devil's Dyke - a tall triple which has seen many a fall, as well as the famous Derby Bank. The Bank sees horses negotiate a sheer drop of 10ft six inches, take one stride and jump a rail (or so the rider hopes).
