City of Aberdeen Highland Games

Aberdeen's Highland Games, held in Hazlehead Park, offers a rich programme of events and competitions showcasing the skills of sportspeople, dancers and musicians from all over Scotland. The traditional "heavy" events - caber tossing, hammer-hurling and shot-putting - always attract the crowds, especially those who love to see men in kilts!

Highland Games have long been an important feature of Scottish heritage and although the format hasn't altered much in the last 100 years or so, recent years have attracted competitors and spectators from around the world. The air fills with the sound of thumping cabers tossed across the competition field, as well as the pipe band and drum major competitions.

Hammer throwing - a traditional Highland Games event - here exemplified by Hamish Davidson in full swing
