Apollo Theatre

The first of London's Edwardian theatres, the Apollo Theatre, designed by Lewin Sharp, opened on 21 February 1901, just a month after Queen Victoria's death. A century on, what it loses in being unrenovated is off-set by its intimacy.

Its early history saw Harry Gabriel Pelissier's Follies there (1908-1912), while Marc Camoletti scored two successes there in the 1960s (Boeing Boeing) and the 1990s (Don't Dress for Dinner), both of which later transferred to the Duchess Theatre.

More recently Edward Albee has had two shows at the Apollo: The Goat, or Who is Sylvia? (an Almeida production) and Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?, direct from Broadway.
