The Merseyside Maritime Museum in Liverpool's Albert Dock showcases the city's seafaring history over the last two centuries with a myriad of themes. The museum's collections look at the international importance of Liverpool as a gateway to the world, including the city's role in the transatlantic slave trade and emigration.

The exhibition's three galleries explore travel by sea, from the great liners of the past to the ferry and cruise services of today, the diversity of freight and cargo ships in international trade, as well as life at sea and its dangers.

Other aspects of the permanent exhibition cover the shipping industry today, the multinational takeovers of family businesses and the industry's impact on the environment with the advent of offshore oil and gas industries. As well as the permanent collections, the museum also presents a full programme of temporary exhibitions.
