Perth Masters

Perth's Dewars Centre, a purpose built ice rink, is the home to the annual Mercure Perth Masters Bonspiel. It starts the year by welcoming Scottish and international curling teams to sweep their stones to victory.

Curling was first recorded in medieval Scotland, and is now best known for gracing the Winter Olympics every year.  But its international reach has been celebrated since 1971 in Perth, wtih only a gap between 1988 and 1993. In 2012 there were over 40 teams applying to take part in the four-day competition, which is part of the Curling Championship Tour, including 21 teams from abroad.  The starting line-up had to be whittled down to 32.
