Kursaal Complex

Southend-on-Sea's Kursaal Complex retains some of its original grandeur and is affectionately used as a point of reference by both locals and visitors. These days it contains a bowling alley, casino, amusement arcade and a popular fast-food restaurant.

Designed by George Sherrin in 1896 and completed in 1901, in its heyday the opulent building housed a circus, ballroom, dining hall and billiard room and boosted the attraction of Southend-on-Sea to holidaymakers. After a long period of dereliction it has now been restored and is a listed building. The council realise that more respect is due, however, and bids are being taken for further development.
