Annual Kendal Torchlight Carnival
At the Annual Kendal Torchlight Carnival, 100 floats and around 2000 people make their way through the pretty market town. They bear burning torches in a spectacle featuring classic cars, folk dancers, street entertainers, marching bands, carthorses and costumed participants.
The centre of town closes to road traffic from 6.45pm and around the Kendal Leisure Centre there is street entertainment and a massive funfair before the actual procession starts. Look out for the festival of traditional dancing - participating groups come from all over Britain, from Scotland to Cornwall. Guest celebrities help to distribute trophies in a special ceremony at the end of the procession at around 10pm.
