The 39 Steps

Patrick Barlow's four-actor adaptation of John Buchan's adventure novel The 39 Steps continues apace at the Criterion Theatre, bringing a quintessential stiff-upper-lip heroism to the West End. Join the energetic quartet in a romp across Britain - perhaps best known from Hitchcock's famous film.

While one actor plays hero Richard Hannay and another plays the three female roles, the remaining two actors share the other 150 parts between them!

Recreating (somehow) the escapade on the train as it crosses the Firth of Forth rail bridge, the chase across the Scottish glens and the denouement above the London Palladium as well as the stage's first ever bi-plane crash, The 39 Steps is a throwback to a time when the goodies were always handsome (and impeccably groomed), with the most perfect of clipped tones.
