Manchester Literature Festival

Manchester's Literature Festival is a city-wide celebration of new literature and spoken-word entertainment, attracting writers from around the globe. Watch out for readings from well-known national and international authors, with special attention also given to independent publishers and magazines.

A festival that likes to celebrate the local while lauding the international, this year's edition also includes a series of events commemorating the 200th anniversary of the birth of pioneering Manchester writer Elizabeth Gaskell. The work of Chinese writer Ding Liying, meanwhile, has been translated for this year's programme.
