Manchester International Festival

The Manchester International Festival is unique in consisting solely of specially commissioned work. It presents a series of large-scale world premières at venues across the city centre, many of which then begin international tours.

Past festivals featured works by Damon Albarn, Carlos Acosta, William Orbit, Heston Blumenthal, PJ Harvey, Kanye West, Happy Mondays, Ojos de Brujo and Johnny Vegas.

This year one of the most eagerly anticipated events is the debut of Biophilia, Bjork's new live show, and the premiere of the new stage production The Life and Death of Marina Abramovic, a biography about the godmother of performance art.
