Wicked

Stephen Schwartz's Wicked continues at London's Apollo Victoria, filling in the Wicked Witch of the West and Good Fairy's back story from The Wizard of Oz. It has been as much a wow in the West End as it has been on Broadway.

The Wizard of Oz has certainly proved a rich source for the stage. Indeed, Andrew Lloyd Webber's television-cast production is now at the London Palladium. 

How did two girlfriends - green-skinned Elphaba (smart, fiery and misunderstood) and Glinda (beautiful, ambitious and popular) - become wicked and good witches respectively? That's the story, based on Gregory Maguire's novel Wicked: The Life & Times of the Wicked Witch of the West.

Schwartz, with musicals like Godspell and The Baker's Wife to his name, here teams up with book-writer Winnie Holzmann (creater of My So-Called Life and writer on thirtysomething).
