Scottish Grand National
Ayr Racecourse is the venue for the Scottish Grand National, one of the most popular events in the Scottish racing calendar. It has been held here since 1966 when Bogside racecourse closed.
The four-mile, one furlong National Hunt race has a distinguished history - not least in 1974 when that immortal racing hero, Red Rum, won both the Scottish Grand National and the Aintree Grand National (a record not beaten since). Each year the race sees a top-quality field of runners from all over the country.
