Bombay Brasserie
The Bombay Brasserie in Knightsbridge is one of London's best-loved Indian restaurants. Diners can try all manner of dishes from Goa, Bengal, Gujarat and North and South India, together with Portuguese and Raj traditions.
The restaurant attracts celebrities by the dozen, but eating here doesn't have to break the bank. The daily buffet lunch served in the airy conservatory offers a choice of three starters, five salads and eight main courses, followed by a choice of three desserts, tea and coffee, all for around £20 per head. But if you prefer the nightlife and an imaginative à la carte dinner, then make a reservation in good time to secure a table.
Specialities include the Bombay Thali (where you get to sample several different curries from the Bombay region), the Lucknow speciality Lamb Nehari, lamb shanks cooked in an aromatic gravy, and the Keralan favourite Fish Malabar, fresh sea bass cooked in coconut milk, tamarind and fennel. For dessert, try Himalayan Peaks (an Indian version of Baked Alaska) and their tasty orange and cardamom ice cream.
