Mompesson House
Built in 1701 for Charles Mompesson, Mompesson House is an architectural gem near Salisbury's cathedral. A splendid example of Queen Anne architecture, it contains exquisite plasterwork, an original oak staircase and a collection of Turnbull 18th-century drinking glasses.
Film fans may recall the house from the 1995 production of Sense and Sensibility, but its fine Georgian features and tranquil atmosphere mean it continues to attract visitors who simply have an appreciation of excellent architecture.
As well as the beautifully preserved interior of the building a charming walled garden is a good place to take tea on sunny days.
