Dorking and District Museum
The Dorking Museum lies in the historic centre of the town, housing an eclectic bunch of displays for the local historian and others.
In the 1820s, the museum site became a foundry which made manhole covers and gutter grates, that can be seen in Dorking's streets today. The Museum still contains many reminders of its former occupation and holds an extensive collection of books and pamphlets relating to the area and its people. It is a treasure-trove of books, maps, newspaper cuttings and ephemera. There is also a variety of displays, from children's toys to agricultural equipment, as well as memorabilia associated with the composer Vaughan Williams and paintings of local scenes.
