Roald Dahl Museum and Story Centre
The Roald Dahl Museum and Story Centre is set in the village of Great Missenden where the author lived and worked. It celebrates the extraordinary life and imagination of the creator of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and aims to inspire children to create their own stories.
The museum itself houses two galleries dedicated to the story of Dahl's life, its impact on his work and archive material that illustrates his writing process. Photos, manuscripts and letters, over 200 objects from Dahl's writing hut and films and books relating to his life are all on display.
The Story Centre - a space where children can use their experience to write tales of their own - forms the creative hub of the museum. Young visitors are given a story ideas book and visiting authors and entertainers lead workshops and games, often based around fairy tales. Children are encouraged to explore their imagination through both play and words.
Adults aren't forgotten either - the centre regularly hosts seminars on topics ranging from calligraphy to publishing and research information is available for Dahl enthusiasts.
