Botanic Gardens
The Botanic Gardens are a haven of peace and tranquillity in the busy West End of Glasgow. The national collection of begonias resides here, as does Kibble Palace, a Victorian glasshouse filled with towering ferns and orchids.
The gardens now welcome some 400,000 visitors a year. The Kibble Palace - a Grade I-listed building - is now a place for giant ferns and tropical plants, as well as marble statues by Scipio Todalini. The other Victorian glasshouses contain a large collection of tropical orchids and begonias. A large tree and shrub collection includes a 200-year-old Weeping Ash, a large Monarch Birch, a large black oak and several beech trees. Innovations include the establishment of a World Rose Garden, added in 2002.
