Lyme Park
Set within a magnificent deer park, Lyme was a Tudor house transformed in the 18th century into a huge Italianate palace by Venetian architect Leoni. Its splendid facade was featured in the BBC production of Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice.
Inside, some of the Elizabethan rooms remain and feature beautiful Mortlake tapestries, Grinling Gibbons' wood carvings and an important collection of clocks.
Outside in the gardens visitors can explore the sunken Dutch garden, Victorian-style formal bedding, herbaceous borders and a rhododendron walk. There is also a lake and a Victorian conservatory.
