The Potteries Museum & Art Gallery
The Potteries Museum holds the world's most impressive collection of Staffordshire Ceramics - unsurprisingly - given that the biggest names in the business (Royal Doulton, Spode, Wedgwood) all have their factories here.
Particular strengths are the 18th-century earthenwares and stonewares, 19th-century porcelains and bone china, and both industrial and studio 20th-century wares. There's an emphasis on items from 1920-1940, such as the simple modernism of Keith Murray and bold abstract work of Clarice Cliff; some of which are considered the most visually stunning ceramics the area has ever produced.
The museum also has rooms devoted to local archaeology, art, community history and natural history.
