Brighton Early Music Festival
The annual Brighton Early Music Festival takes place in various venues across Brighton and Hove and as far afield as Lewes and Kempton. Lasting 17 days, it leaves plenty of time to mull over this year's theme - ritual.
Courtship and marriage, religion and customs, living, dying and remembering, eating, drinking, revelry and the seasons - celebrated in music from antiquity to the present, rituals define the most important moments of our lives and mark our progression through life.
Artists who are contributing to the programme this year include Emma Kirkby, Red Priest, The Sixteen, Joglaresa, Horses Brawl and Passacaglia, while a special concert celebrates the 400th anniversary of the Monteverdi 1610 Vespers.
