Aberdeen International Football Festival
Since 1981, young football teams from over 40 countries have arrived in Scotland for the International Football Festival. One of Aberdeen's most popular summer events, it takes place on Balgownie Playing Fields, with the finals held at Aberdeen Sports Village.
Aimed at boys between 14 and 16, as well as 15-year-old girls, 11-a-side teams compete over the week (from the Monday to Saturday), playing a minimum of four games (more, of course, if they go further into the tournament). There's also a five-a-side competition as well as other activities such as soccer tennis, a crossbar challenge and, aprés sport, discos.
It all goes to prove the festival's motto, that "Football is Fun".
