Samhuinn Festival
Edinburgh's Beltane Fire Society presents the Samhuinn Festival every Halloween. It's a spectacular procession of music, folk dance, physical theatre and fire illuminating the city.
The celebration of Samhuinn, traditionally a time of revelry marking the summer's end, is here turned into a macabre medieval pageant winding its way down the Royal Mile.
The festival is a modern retelling of a traditional Galoshins folk play, whereby the court of the Summer King is vanquished by that of the Winter King, whose own court chases out the remnants of the light half of the year.
