Rydal Mount
William Wordsworth's family home from 1813 until his death in 1850, Rydal Mount stands amidst the spectacular Lake District landscape which inspired the great poet. The period building and its stunning landscaped gardens now serve as a museum of Wordsworth's life.
The house itself is built around the foundations of a Tudor cottage dating back to 1574, though the main body of the building was built in 1750. The property includes four acres of garden, which remain much as they were when designed by Wordsworth.
Inside as well as out, Rydal Mount has changed little since the days of the Wordsworth family. William, Mary and Dorothy's bedrooms have been preserved, as has the poet's study. Other notable items on display include several portraits of the family and first editions of Wordsworth's works.
