Geffrye Museum
The Geffrye Museum is housed in 18th-century almshouses built by the Worshipful Company of Ironmongers. The domestic interior through the ages forms the subject of an engaging, ever-changing exhibition.
The museum came into being in 1914 as a showcase for high quality design - a beacon for the furniture industry that thrived nearby. Since then it has presented examples of period rooms from the past 400 years. Twelve rooms display representative furniture, furnishings and artwork from the 16th century onwards. Whether the roughness of the Stuart period or the refinement of the Georgian decades takes your fancy, you're sure to find a fascinating range of contrasts and surprises.
The effort to span the centuries was made easier through the opening of an addition in 1998 and award-winning gardens were added in 1992 and 1999.
