Gunnersbury Park Museum
Gunnersbury Park Museum is the former home of the Rothschild family, who lived there when the air of Acton was "untainted". Now a museum, the former mansion contains imaginative exhibits which illustrate the family's life and an interesting programme of temporary displays.
The Rothschild family fortune was founded by Mayer Rothschild who had five sons. He sent them to Naples, Frankfurt, London, Paris and Vienna to extend the family business, which they did admirably. It was the son who came to London, Nathan Rothschild, who bought Gunnersbury Park and lived there for many years. Nathan became the first Jew to ever become an MP in what was an extremely anti-semitic period in British history.
Examine local archaeological finds, domestic equipment and costumes, as well as the last hansom cab that worked in Ealing. Finally, don't miss the chance to see the great banking family's state coach and their travelling coach which now stand, polished but unused, in the parlour.
