The Oak has long been established as part of the north London scene and hosts a series of nights which keep interest up and different crowds coming. There's the famous Viv Acious quiz; Liberte, the mega-popular soul, swing and reggae night (one of the few in London that attracts a good mix of black and white women); Girlfriends (garage with go-go dancers) and an indie night.
The rest of the time The Oak's a regular gay local and any big football match will draw a noisy crowd of dykes in front of the wide screen.
It's generally a mixed place, unusually one where lesbians are often in the majority, with some of the club nights (Girlfriends and Liberte, for instance) being women-only.
