Hotels near the Monkton Wyld

Monkton Wyld Court bills itself as an "holistic education centre" (and is, in fact a registered charity as a result of its work). It was set up in the early 1980s by a resident community and exists now with a variable number of volunteers. Set in a beautiful stone-built Victorian rectory and out-buildings, with 11 acres of grounds in a secluded valley, it offers a great retreat.

The residents earn their money through a rolling programme of events throughout the year on a huge range of alternative topics - such as natural gardening, Qi Gong and even African drumming. There are family weeks and courses concerned with environmental issues too. It's possible to stay without learning however, as they also welcome those who just want some serious quiet time.

Attached to the house is a small organic farm with cows, geese, chickens and an organic vegetable garden, supplying all who stay with delicious food. There are also plenty of green areas for children to run wild in - the centre runs a kindergarten for local children and those who live there.
