Aldeburgh Festival was the brainchild of Suffolk composer Benjamin Britten and his life partner, the tenor Peter Pears in 1948. Every year Aldeburgh programmes not only acknowledged masterpieces but also new contemporary works at the Snape Maltings and in seaside Aldeburgh itself.
