Harewood House
Just beyond Alwoodley, on the edge of Leeds, Harewood House is a vast estate with a beautifully furnished 18th-century stately home, a superb art collection and fascinating exhibition on servant life. It's set in landscaped grounds perfect for country walks.
Harewood House is the home of the Queen's cousin, the Earl of Harewood. Built in the 18th century largely from money made from the West Indian sugar trade, Harewood was designed by the noted architects John Carr and Robert Adam, with gardens designed by Capability Brown and furniture by Thomas Chippendale from nearby Otley.
