Darbar South Asian Music Festival
Leicester's Darbar South Asian Music Festival, held at Curve, brings together renowned musicians. The programme ranges from the traditional to contemporary eclectic, bringing the sound of the sub-continent to the Midlands.
Artists in previous years have included Rakesh Chaurasia, blending the sounds of his hollow bamboo bansuri flute with jazz and Spanish guitar melodies, and Bhupinder Singh Chaggar mixing his tabla playing with flamenco, Western percussion, soul and hip-hop.
In 2011 "emperor of Indian saxophone" Kadri Gopalnath is joined by Jyotsna Srikanth (violin) and Anoor Ananthakrishna Sharma (mridangham, south India's barrel-shaped drum).
