Sealife Adventure
Whoever scoffs at the idea of sharks and piranhas residing off England's coastline will have to eat their words at Southend's Sealife Adventure. Children and adults alike spend hours getting close to and admiring unknown underwater life.
The Deep Water World is a glass tunnel that provides a chance to literally walk through the sea and rub shoulders with sting rays and sharks. The HMS Sub Tropical allows a leisurely peek at tropical fish, deadly piranhas included, through the submarine's portholes, while The Seahorse Rodeo houses a flourishing community of the curiously small equine creatures.
The regular "Fishy Encounters of the Close Kind" educational talks are fun and informative for children, and the monthly opportunity to dive with sharks and rays (with a basic open water diving qualification) is available for those who want to get even closer to marine life.
