Southend Pier

Southend's pride and joy is undoubtedly its pier, the longest pleasure pier in the world at 1.33 miles. Dating back to 1830, it has amazingly survived countless fires and boat collisions, the area's economic hardship as well as two world wars.

While recovering from the latest fire in 2005 (which wiped out the majority of the amenities), the pier is currently enjoying a loving make-over that features a sparkling new lifeboat station, a sundeck and a new fire main!

Southend encourages visitors to use the pier for fishing, bird-watching and enjoying the excellent views of the Thames Estuary coastline that a ride in the jolly pier train provides.
