The Rifles (Berkshire and Wiltshire) Museum
The Rifles Museum in Salisbury is the museum of the Royal Gloucestershire, Berkshire and Wiltshire Regiments. The four rooms hold a chronological display of war artefacts from the mid-18th century to 1994.
The Rifles (Berkshire and Wiltshire) Museum building dates from 1254 and is also known locally by the site's old name of The Wardrobe - it was once a clothing and document store used by bishops in the 14th century.
The Rifles (Berkshire and Wiltshire) Museum spent four years transcribing the 24 battalion war diaries of the Royal Berkshire and Wiltshire Regiments for both the Great War and the Second World War. The transcribed diaries for the Great War are available to view on the museum website, along with 6000 historic artefacts relating to the regiments.
